EAT OUT IN EAST KENT

Food to suit all tastes and a variety of delightful venues.

This is an entirely personal view - please feel free to e mail us your comments on the restaurants we recommend.

FOR MICHELIN STARS TRY:-

  • The Sportsman at Graveney

  • The Granville Arms, Stone Street, Canterbury

  • Reeds at Faversham

OTHER CONTENDERS SHOULD BE:

THE DOVE AT DARGATE

Just outside Faversham, the beautifully sited Herne Hill and a short drive from the A2 or the Thanet Way, this pub is one of the gastronomic treats in Kent.  For lunch, try the crab risotto with a chilled glass of something and you will be delighted.  This is a clean scrubbed, friendly pub (well behaved dogs are allowed and given a drink of water) and locals are also well behaved!

THE ABODE HOTEL – MICHAEL CAINE RESTAURANT (Canterbury)

This city centre hotel has been thoroughly  modernised.  We went for a 2 course set meal, but by the time we had had the “amuse bouche”, the complimentary taster of the soup, our two course meal and delicious petit fours with the coffee we really felt we had an excellent value meal.  The service is impeccable and the food on a par with any of the best restaurants in major cities.  Can be pricey but excellent for a special occasion.

JUST PLAIN GOOD FOOD

THE YEW TREE PUB, WESTBERE (near Sturry, Canterbury)

Situated in a beautiful village just 1 1/2 miles from Canterbury.  This village boasts more historic houses than most and the pub is in the centre.  Mark, Anna and Noel went out of their way to make us something which was not actually on the menu - a simple sandwich.  It was delicious and the service and the decor were charming.
